Ans. D Choice A is not true because tertiary halides usually undergo substitution by SN1 mechanism. Choice B doesn't make any sense at all. Choice C is not correct, because SN2 mechanism generally does not involve a carbocation intermediate, whereas SN1 mechanism does involve a carbocation intermediate. Hence, by elimination the answer is D.
