The Golgi

The Golgi (or Golgi bodies, or Golgi apparatus) appear as “stacks of pancakes” in the cytoplasm. These organelles function in modifying lipids and proteins that are packaged into membrane bound vesicles for transport to specific locations in the cell. The vesicles form through the budding of the Golgi membrane.
