During the final stage of mitosis, the microtubules disassemble and a nucleus forms around each set of chromosomes. The cytoplasm divides by a process called cleavage or cytokinesis which is mediated by microtubules. The microtubules “pull” thecell membrane into the cytoplasm. Upon completion of telophase, two new, complete cells exist, and each cell continues on into interphase of the next cell cycle.
