Life Cycle

Although viruses are not alive, they do have a “life cycle,” a series of events that results in their reproduction. In general, viral replication involves four steps:
  1. The virus attaches to a specific type of cell.
  2. The genetic material enters the host cell.
  3. The viral genetic material forces the host cell to produce copies of viral proteins and genetic material.
  4. New viruses are released from the cell.
