Atomic Nuclei

An atom has a central core called nucleus which makes up most of the mass of the atom and has a positive charge. The electrons revolve around the nucleus. The charge on the nuclei is equal to the charge on the number of protons inside the nucleus. Charge on a proton is 1.6 × 1019 C.
The unit for measuring nuclear mass is amu (atomic mass unit). 1 amu = 1.67 × 1027 kg.
Mass of proton = 1.007276 amu
Mass of neutron = 1.008665 amu
Mass of electron = 0.0005486 amu
Protons and neutrons form the nucleus and are called nucleons.
