Type I

In this type of problems, the order of codes under column II are same as the order of words under column I. However, the order of letters in the words and their respective codes are not the same. In other words, the codes of the letters are jumbled.

Find the codes of the following words with the help of above table.
  1. L A T E
  2. C O U R T
  3. F A C T
  4. P A R R O T
  5. T O U R I S M
Analysis:

Observe that each letter in column I is represented by one small letter in column II. Now, you have to compare, find the codes of each letter and then answer the questions.

To start with, consider the word ‘L O Y A L’, where ‘L’ is repeated. ‘z’ is repeated in the code ‘n z m g z’. So, we can conclude that the code for ‘L’ is ‘z’.

Similarly, ‘O’ is repeated in the word ‘F O O T’ and ‘n’ is repeated in its code ‘n s n c’. So, O’s code is ‘n’.

No other letter is repeated in any of the words in column I.

Observing the codes for F A M E, L O Y A L and P A C E, in which vowel ‘A’ is common, we can conclude that the code for ‘A’ is ‘m’ (as ‘m’ is common in ‘m h s u’, ‘n z m g z’ and ‘k m h y’ in column II).

Similarly, by observing the codes for P U R E and F A M E in which ‘E’ is common, we can say that the code for ‘E’ is ‘h’ (since ‘h’ is common in ‘y b d h’ and ‘m h s u’).

Consider the words P U R E and P U R S E of column I. ‘S’ is the only extra letter in the word P U R S E and all other letters are same as that of the word P U R E. By comparing the respective codes of these two words, we can say that the code for S is ‘j’.

Notice that the words ‘F O O T’ and ‘U N I T E’ have ‘T’ in common. Their codes ‘n s n c’ and ‘t a h d c’ have ‘c’ in common. So, the code of ‘T’ is ‘c’.

Observe the word, ‘F O O T’. The codes for ‘T’ and ‘O’ are already known. The only letter left out in this word is ‘F’. Hence the code for ‘F’ is ‘s’.

Observe the word ‘F A M E’ and its code ‘m h s u’. The codes of ‘F’, ‘A’ and ‘E’ are already known and they are s, m and h, respectively. This implies that the code of ‘M’ is ‘u’.

In the word LOYAL, the codes of the letters L, O and A are already known. Hence the code of Y is ‘g’.

Both the words ‘P U R E’ and ‘P A C E’ contain the letters ‘P’ and ‘E’. The codes of these words have ‘h’ and ‘y’ in common. We know that the code of the letter ‘E’ is ‘h’. So, the code of the letter ‘P’ should be ‘y’.

By comparing the codes of the words ‘P U R E’ and ‘F I R S T’, we notice that the code of the letter ‘R’ is ‘b’.

As we know the codes of all letters, except ‘U’ in the word ‘P U R E’, we conclude that the code of ‘U’ is ‘d’.

In the word ‘PACE’, the codes of the letters ‘P’, ‘A’ and ‘E’ are ‘y’, ‘m’ and ‘h’, respectively. So, the code of the letter ‘C’ should be ‘k’.

Now, consider the word ‘F I R S T’. The codes of all letters, except the letter ‘I’ are known. So, we can conclude that the code of ‘I’ is ‘t’.

Finally, the codes of all the letters except N, in the word ‘U N I T E’ are known. So, the code of ‘N’ is ‘a’.

We have now found out the codes of all the letters. The codes are summarized in a tabular form as follows.

Letter:
A
C
E
F
I
L
M
N
O
P
R
S
T
U
Y
Code:
m
k
h
s
t
z
u
a
n
y
b
j
c
d
g

Once we identify the codes of all the letters in column I, it is easy to answer the questions.

The answers for the questions are given below.
  1. L A T E z m c h
  2. C O U R T k n d b c
  3. F A C T s m k c
  4. P A R R O T y m b b n c
  5. T O U R I S M c n d b t j u
Sometimes the answer alternatives for the questions do not have the codes in the same order. They are jumbled.
