Solution
In this example, the letters of the word at the odd-numbered positions, i.e., 5 3 and 1 are written in the positions 1, 2 and 3 in the code, and the letters of the word at the even-numbered positions, i.e., 2, 4 and 6 are written at the positions 4, 5 and 6 in the code.
By applying the same technique, we obtain the code of the word AUTHOR as O T A U H R.

Solution

This process is continued till the last letter of the word.
In other words, the letters of the word are written in the order 2 1 3 4 6 5 7 8 in the code.
By applying the same technique, the code of the word T H U R S D A Y is H T U R D S A Y.

Since the word S T U D E N T S contains eight letters, number them from 1 to 8 and rearrange the letters in the order 1 3 5 7 8 6 4 2 to get its code.

The first letter of the word is L, and the first letter of the code is R.

Apply the same technique to the word F L O W E R.
The answer is M R T A H T.

Solution
 
Interchange the positions of the second and first letters, fourth and third letters, sixth and fifth letters. Then replace the letters by their previous letters.

Solution
In this example, each letter of the words is replaced by a single digit number.
First, write each letter along with its code number.
 
P - 6, A - 9, N - 0, T - 1, H - 2, E - 5, R - 7, D - 3, M - 4.
 
Now replace each letter of the word M A T T E R by respective code numbers.
 
M - 4, A - 9, T - 1, T - 1, E - 5, R - 7

Solution
In this example, the position number of each letter is found out first.
The digits of position numbers are added together to get a single digit number.
This number replaces the letter in the code.
 
V → 22 → 4, E → 5, G → 7, E → 5, T → 20 → 2, A → 1, B → 2, L → 12 → 3, E → 5
 
Apply the same technique to the word W A T E R.
 
W → 23 → 5, A → 1, T → 20 → 2, E → 5, R → 18 → 9

In a certain code, M A N G O is coded as 1 3 2 4 2 2 8 7 5, then how is F R U I T coded?
Solution
Formula used is L.P × 1, × 2, × 3, × 4, × 5 (L.P. means letter position in the alphabet).
 
i.e., M → 13 × 1 = 13, A → 1 × 2 = 2, N → 14 × 3 = 42, G → 7 × 4 = 28, O → 15 × 5 = 75.
Similarly, the letter positions of F R U I T are 6, 18, 21, 9, 20.
 
F → 6 × 1 = 6, R → 18 × 2 = 36, U → 21 × 3 = 63, I → 9 × 4 = 36, T → 20 × 5 = 100

Example-15
In a certain code, H O T E L is coded as 12, then how is U R V A S I coded?
Solution
Write the position number of each letter of the word H O T E L and add them together.
 
H O T E L→ 8 + 15 + 20 + 5 + 12 = 60.
 
On dividing the above number by 5 (number of letters in the word), we get 12 which represents the code of the word HOTEL.
 
Apply the same technique to the word U R V A S I.
 
URVASI → 21 + 18 + 22 + 1 + 19 + 9 = 90.
The word U R V A S I contains 6 letters.
On dividing 90 by 6, we get 15, which is the required answer.

Example-16
In a certain code, R A H U L is coded as 75, then how is S U M A N coded?
Solution
Find the position number of each letter of the word R A H U L in the reverse order (i.e., counting backward from Z).
Then find the total of all these numbers.
This number represents the code of the word R A H U L.
 
R → 9, A → 26, H → 19, U → 6, L → 15
 
9 + 26 + 19 + 6 + 15 = 75.
 
Apply the same technique to the word S U M A N.
 
S → 8, U → 6, M → 14, A → 26, N → 13
 
8 + 6 +14 + 26 +13 = 67.

In a certain code, F R U I T is coded as 5 8 2 8 1, then how is G R A P E S coded?
Solution
F R U I T Given word.
6 18 21 9 20 Position number of letters.
6 9 3 9 2 Digital sum of each number.
5 8 2 8 1 Subtract 1, from each number.

This number represents the code of the word F R U I T.
 
Apply the same technique to the word G R A P E S.
 
G R A P E S Given word.

7 9 1 7 5 1 Digital sum of each number.

In a certain code language,
  1. ‘PIC TOP BOO’ means ‘DOGS ARE BEAUTIFUL’,
  2. ‘TOP SIG ZAP’ means ‘DOGS AND CATS’, and
  3. ‘KIP PIC RUM’ means ‘MONKEYS ARE MAD’,
which is the code for ‘BEAUTIFUL’?
Solution
We notice that the sentences ‘DOGS ARE BEAUTIFUL’ and ‘DOGS AND CATS’ have the common word ‘DOGS’.
Their codes have the common code ‘TOP’.
Hence ‘TOP’ is the code of ‘DOGS’.
Now, compare the sentences ‘DOGS ARE BEAUTIFUL’ and ‘MONKEYS ARE MAD’.
The word ‘ARE’ is common in these two sentences. ‘PIC’ is common in their codes.
Hence ‘PIC’ is the code of ‘ARE’.
In the sentence ‘DOGS ARE BEAUTIFUL’, we have found the codes of ‘DOG’ and ‘ARE’ as ‘TOP’ and ‘PIC’, respectively.
So, the code of the remaining word ‘BEAUTIFUL’ should be ‘BOO’.
