Ans. A Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension : For ensuring effective social security net to the aged poor people of the country, Government has while lowering the age to 60 years from the present 65 years and including the destitutes, widows and physically handicapped persons within the ambit of schemes enhanced the central share of monthly pension to Rs. 200 under the new Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS) which was launched on November 19, 2007. States have been requested to provide equal matching share and to distribute the payment through banks/post offices. This effort of the Government will ensure effective security to the elderly persons of the country.
