When a product is derived by exploiting natural resources, it is an activity of the Primary Sector. It is called the Primary Sector because it forms the base for all other products that are subsequently made.
Here are a few examples of the activities of the Primary Sector:-
The cultivation of any crop, paddy; maize; cotton etc., depends mainly on natural factors like rainfall, soil and climate. The product, rice; maize; cotton etc., are natural products.
(b) Dairy, Poultry and Fish Farming
Dairy, Poultry and Fish Farming depend on the biological process of the animals , birds and fish and the availability of their feed. The products, namely milk, eggs, chicken and fish are natural products.
Forestry like agriculture depends on natural resources, therefore the product, timber, is a natural product.
The Primary Sector is also called the Agriculture and related Sector.
