Common Fungal Diseases of Skin
A child presents with a boggy scalp swelling. The hair can be easily pulled out. The diagnosis is made using (AIPG 2010)
KOH preparation - is performed on scaling skin lesions when a fungal etiology is suspected
1). 10-20% KOH solutions
2). Identify hyphae in dermatophyte infections, pseudohypha, and budding yeast in Candida infections and fragmented hyphae and spores in tinea versicolor
3). Clinical presentation indicates kerion.
