Gram Positive Cocci
A non hemolytic bacteria resistant to vancomycin shows growth in 6.5% NaCl, bile resistant. It is likely to be:
a. Enterococci are gram positive cocci, catalase negative, grow in 6.5% NaCl. Some strains may become resistant to vancomycin.
b. These bacteria can show any type of hemolysis on blood agar. Strep. Pneumoniae is alpha hemolytic on blood agar.
c. Strep. Bovis is non hemolytic but does not grow in 6.5% NaCI. Strep. Agalactiae or group B streptococci is beta hemolytic.
