All of the following results from the placement of on intraaortic balloon pump in a patient with acute myocardial failure except:
|A||Diastolic blood pressure elevation|
|B||Increase cardiac output|
|C||Increased pulmonary perfusion|
|D||Increased probability of survival|
a. An intraaortic balloon pump can be inserted at the bedside to provide temporary support for a failing myocardium.
b. It can be anticipated that diastolic blood pressure will increase with associated improvement in pulmonary perfusion.
c. Cardiac output distal to the pump will be increased.
d. There is, however, no convincing evidence that use of the device improves long-term survival in these acutely ill patients.
