|C||Yolk sac tumor|
|D||Embryonal cell carcinoma|
AFP is a marker of hepatocellular cancer and non-seminomatous germ cell tumors of testes.
Non-seminomatous germ cell tumors may be embryonal carcinoma, yolk sac tumors, choriocarcinoma or teratoma.
a. Embryonal cell carcinomas and Yolk sac tumor have elevated AFP levels.
b. Dorland's dictionary 27th edition writes that Teratocarcinoma refers to a germ cell tumor that is a mixture of teratoma with embryonal carcinoma, or with choriocarcinoma, or with both. So, it may be having elevated levels of AFP.
c. Choriocarcinomas have elevated levels of HCG which can be readily demonstrated in the cytoplasm of syncytiotrophoblastic cells.
