Defect in any of the following may result in renal agenesis except (AIPG 2010)

• Ureteric bud induces the Metanephros to from metanephric blastema which will later form the Nephrons. If ureteric induction is not there, there will be renal agenesis.
• Unilateral renal agenesis is more common than bilateral agenesis. It is usually picked up incidentally on IVU or ultrasound. Sometimes, it is found whilst investigating an abdominal mass, this being the contralateral, hypertrophied kidney.
• It is sometimes detected in the context of a single umbilical artery
