Remnants of the duct of Gartner are occasionally seen protruding through the lateral fornices or lateral parts of the vagina; these can cause cysts (Gartner's cysts).
- In the female the mesonephric duct is vestigial. Cranially it becomes the longitudinal duct of the epoöphoron, while caudally it is referred to as Gartner's duct.
