|A||Primary cell culture|
|B||Diploid cell strain|
|C||Continous cell line|
a. Cell culture on the basis of origin, chromosomal characters and number of generation through which they can be maintained, are classified into three types – primary, diploid and continuous.
b. Diploid cell strains are cells of a single types that retain the original diploid chromosome number and karyotype during serial sub cultivation for a limited number of times.
c. Examples of diploid cell strains include Human embryonic lung cell strain (WI 38), Rhesus embryo cell strain (HL8).
d. Examples of continuous cell lines is HELa Its stand for Hendra Lax (This is name of the patient whose Ca. cervix cells were taken to make this continuous cell line); Hep2 Human epithelioma of larynx.
