General Virology and DNA Viruses
Interferons inhibit viral growth primarily by affecting
|A||Host cytokine production|
|B||Host protein synthesis|
|C||Viral protein synthesis|
|D||Viral transcription process|
a. Interferons produce antiviral action by destroying viral mRNA, thus inhibiting viral protein synthesis.
b. There are three types of interferons (α, β and γ). α interferon is produced by leukocytes, α interferon is produced by fibroblasts, while α interferon is produced by T helper cells.
