Leprosy affects all except (DNB June 09)
Leprosy is caused by mycobacterium laprae which grows best in cooler area of the tissue like skin, peripheral nerve and chamber of eye, upper respiratory tract and testes sparing warmer areas of skin (the axilla, groin, scalp and midline of the back).
In female leprosy seldom affects the genital organs but when it does, ovary is the commonest organ to be involved.
Important Facts about leprosy:
a. TT is the most common form of leprosy encountered in India.
b. 1st sensation to go in leprosy is cold temperature.
c. Elevated levels of TNF have been demonstrated in ENL.
