Rickettsia and Chlamydia
Lymphogranuloma venereum is caused by:
|D||Gram positive bacteria|
|E||Gram negative bacteria|
a. LGV is caused by C. trachomatis L1, L2 and L3.
b. In the primary stage, it is characterized by a painless papulo-vesicular lesion on the genitals. In the secondary stage, there is regional lymphadenopathy.
c. These lymph nodes may suppurate. Metastasis may occur to the joints, eyes and meninges.
d. Tertiary stage is characterized by genital elephantiasis due to scarring and lymphatic blockage.
e. Treatment with doxycycline- 100mg BD for 21 days.
