Purines, Pyrimidines and Nucleic Acid Metabolism
Nucleic acid absorbs light at wavelength of 260 nm due to
|C||Purines & Pyrimidines|
a. Nucleotides Absorb ultraviolet light: - The conjugated double bonds of the hetro-cyclic bases of purines and pyrimidine ensure that nucleotides, nucleosides, and poly-nucleotides (DNA) absorb ultraviolet light.
b. At PH. 7.0 all the common nucleotides absorb light at a wavelength close to 260nm. The mutagenic effect of UV light result from its absorption by nucleotides in DNA with accompanying chemical change.
