Plasma sterilization accuracy is assessed by using?(AIIMS Nov 2010)
a. A plasma is essentially an excited gasand is produced by adding energy (radiofrequency or microwaves). It operates differently by using specific active agents like UV photons and radicals (atoms or assembly of atoms with unpaired electrons, therefore chemically reactive, e.g., O and OH, respectively).
b. Gas plasma sterilization uses hydrogen peroxide as substrate gas & radiofrequency emissions to generate plasma at low temperature. Used for sterilization of heat sensitive materials, instruments.
c. For determining the efficacy of moist heat sterilization, spores of Bacilius stearothermophilus are used as the test organism. The bacterial organism most resistant to the sterilization technique is Bacillus stearothermophilus.
