Doctor and notifying or concerned authority.
Following are examples of exception to the general rule of professional secrecy-
a. Infectious diseases: If a pt. suffering from infectious disease is employed as a cook or waiter in a hotel, or as nurse to a child, he should either leave the job until becomes non-infections; if pt. refuses → the doctor can inform the employer.
b. Servants & employers: The engine driver or bus-driver or a ship-officer suffering from epilepsy, High B.P., alcoholism, drug addiction, color blindness→should either leave the job/ get it treated or shall be unfit for the job on medical grounds.
c. Venereal disease: (a) If a person is suffering V.D., Syphilis, AIDS about to marry– first advise not to marry till he cures, otherwise doctor can inform the spouse concerned, (Supreme Court judgment) (b) Swimming should be prohibited for those having syphilis, gonorrhoea.
