Autonomic Nervous Systems
Reserpine acts by: (DNB Dec 20112)
|A||At the postsynaptic membrane|
|B||Inhibiting the release of granules at the nerve terminal|
|C||By inhibiting the transport system in formation of the vesicles|
|D||At the nerve terminal causing hyperpolarization|
Reserpine acts at the membrane of intra neuronal granules that store monoamine (NA, 5-HT, DA) and irreversibly inhibits the active amine transport. The monoamine are gradually depleted and degraded by monoamine oxidase, the affect lasts long after the drug is eliminated because tissue CA stores are restored only gradually.
