General Virology and DNA Viruses
Virion is: (DNB Dec 09)
|A||Extracellular infectious form|
|C||Same as viroid|
|D||Same as prion|
a. Extracellular infectious form of a virus is referred as virion.
b. It consists of a nucleic acid core surrounded by a protein coat, which is called capsid. Two kind of symmetry are encountered in the capsid – Icosahedral and helical.
c. Virion may be enveloped or nonenveloped (naked). The enveloped is the derived from the host cell membrane. This enveloped is lipo protein in nature.
