FIFTH DISEASE or Erythema infectiosum is a mild, moderately contagious disease seen most commonly in children 3 to 12 years old. It is caused by human parvovirus 819. The rash develops after fever has resolved, as a bright blanchable erythema on the cheeks (slapped cheek appearance) with perioral pallor.
