Which one of the following is a characteristic of arbovirus? (AIIMS May 2012)
|A||Are closely related to parvovirus|
|B||Are transmitted by insect vectors|
|C||Are treatable with antiviral chemotherapy|
|D||Are usually resistant to ether|
a. Arboviruses (arthropod-borne viruses) may or may not be surrounded by a lipid envelope, although most are inactivated by lipid solvents such as ether and may contain either double-stranded or single-stranded RNA.
b. Physicochemical studies have demonstrated a great heterogeneity among these viruses. Arboviruses cause disease in vertebrates; in humans, encephalitis is a frequent arbovirus illness.
c. Most human infections with arbovirus, however, are asymptomatic.
