With the hip in 90o flexion a line joining the anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS) and the ischia tuberosity passes through the greater trochanter tip. This is: (AIPG 2010)
a. The trochanter will be proximal to this line in Supra trochanteric shortening. With the patient supine a line joining ASIS and tip of trochanter extended up to the abdomen meets the other line in the middle above the umbilicus-Shoemaker's line.
b. With the patient supine lines are drawn joining the ASIS on both sides and the greater trochanters normally these are parallel, these are Cheine's lines.
