# PN Junction Diode

Diode Current Equation

where,
I = Forward Diode current

= Reverse Saturation current

V = External Voltage (Positive for forward and negative for reverse)

= A constant (For Ge = 1 and Si = 2, whereas = 1 for rapidly increasing section of curve)

= Volt equivalent temperature; its value is given by T/11600, where T is absolute temperature.

Effect of Temperature on Diode Characteristic

Diode current is a function of temperature and since the coefficent of temperature (VT) is in the denominator of the power of the exponential term, therefore, with an increase in the temperature, the diode current exponentially decreases and vice-versa.
