There is tetrahedral geometry of CH4 . Why it not have square planar geometry , C as a central atom and 4 hydrozen at corner of square planar?
No lone pair thus bonds will stay at maximum possible angle
Due to sp3 hybridization
In tetahedral geometry minimum repulsion occurs
Becoz it is sp3 hybridized and no presence of lone pair so minimum repulsion so shape is tetrahedral
Because in CH4 have Sp3 hybridiged
According to vesper theory
S>p>d>f. is a sigma effect......so very repulsion & shape is a tetrahedral....
It's is also because of s and p orbitals overlapping....
In ch4 C uses its 3 p-orbitals and 1sorbital so to minimize repulsion these arrange themselves in tetrahedral shape
And for square planar geometry d orbitals are required and C neither have any d orbital nor lone pairs as all its 4 electrons are Boyd with 1hydrogen each
